Tales of Everin

Once upon a rather ordinary time...

Many centuries ago, in a world called Everin, there lived a girl named Mira.

Mira spent most of her days in a laboratory, surrounded by experiments, questions and things Theo would probably pretend to understand.

Yes. Unfortunately, even in other worlds, people have to work.

She had a wonderfully curious mind, a sharp sense of humour, beautiful eyes, and the rather inconvenient habit of wanting to understand how everything worked.

In another corner of Everin lived Theo.

Theo worked in tech.

There is considerably less poetry to be extracted from that.

He preferred taking life a little slowly, thinking things through, and generally not being in too much of a hurry about anything.

They were, by all accounts, two perfectly ordinary people living two perfectly ordinary lives.

Until one day, Theo and Mira found each other through the Exchange, one of Everin’s rather practical ways of helping strangers meet.

People left small cards there, with a portrait, a few things about themselves, and answers to questions that were supposedly useful in deciding whether two strangers might get along.

Theo came across Mira’s card. Mira came across Theo’s.

They exchanged a few messages. Then a few more.

They still knew very little about each other, but apparently enough for both of them to think meeting in person might be a good idea.

It was the beginning of a new year. Neither was really looking for anything in particular, and neither went into it with particularly high expectations.

Because sometimes the most interesting things begin when nobody is trying particularly hard to make them happen.

And so, Theo and Mira decided to get coffee together.
